Once, we argued over the responsibility of a film director/actors v. the audience to bring emotion into the film-viewing experience. Of course we never resolved that question! But, having read many, many reviews which seem to have seen completely different and opposite films/performances, I started looking at the sources of those reviews.
And so, a theory:
Are those who are more conservative (especially socially conservative) more likely to expect a film to deliver on its own, without active assistance/participation from the audience?
